Revue- Movie: Forrest Gump

Hiello! This is Junebug, your friendly neighborhood insect, posting about the 1994 film Forrest Gump. This movie stars Tom Hanks as the title character, and also Robin Wright and Gary Sinise. As you might have already guessed, this is a comedy. It starts off with Forrest, sitting in a bench, with his suitcase and a box of chocolates. As people come by him, he talks to them in a casual manner, describing his life in a series of flashbacks, which are located in famous events of the 1960's. Hanks uses a Southern, drawling accent that makes him friendly to listen to.

So Forrest Gump describes his childhood, a little painful, caused by his apparently low intelligent, but his mother telling him that he is like anybody else, and also his leg problems (he can't walk normally) Still, he is a loner on the school bus, until he meets a young girl named Jenny (later played by Robin Wright). He quickly makes friends with her. But one school day, he is pummeled with rocks from bullies and hears Jenny yell the eternal quote "Run, Forrest, run!" And so, he runs, like the wind, outrunning the bullies on their bicycles.

In Forrest's high school years, his running ability gets him a scholarship to Alabama, and he literally never stops running. His college years, though, are a little troubled, from his friend Jenny, who gets into a sort of exposing behavior. Forrest can't understand all of this, but he is angry that men are trying to hurt her.

Finally Forrest goes to the Army, where he excels, due to his ability to end everything with "Yes, Drill Seargent!" He meets a friend, Bubba, of the shrimping business. He promises to help him catch lots of shrimp after the war is over. They send Forrest to Vietnam, and his running rescues many, including the nearly dead Lieutenant Dan (Gary Sinise) who is very angry at Forrest for saving his life. Bubba dies, unfortunately, but Forrest keeps his promise and starts a shrimping business (Bubba Gump Shrimp)

Then in comes back to current times, where Forrest meets Jenny again, and finds out she already has a son! From himself! The son is named (guess what?) Forrest. Jenny dies of a mysterious virus, and Forrest and Forrest Jr. Live happily ever after.

I think this movie is long, but every minute of it was funny in a good way. It was an excellent storyline, and Hanks played it very well. 5 gumps. (From now on the rating system is "Gumps".)

Very awesome quotes in the movie : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109830/quotes
